Botanical Description

Flourishing in full sun, the Agave desmettiana produces structural, drought-tolerant leaves that feature completely smooth edges. Each rosette grows for many years (often 10 to 30+ years) before flowering just once. When it blooms, it produces a massive, towering central flowering spike (inflorescence) that can reach heights of 15 to 40 feet. After flowering, the main rosette dies off but leaves behind base offshoots ("pups") to continue the plant line. Overgrown Nursery Stock. Outgrowing their 3" Nursery pots, Agave have a vigorous root system allowing for rapid growth once established. Light: Requires full sun. Water: Very drought tolerant. Allow the plant to completely dry out in between watering. Soil: Highly porous, well draining medium that prevents excess moisture retention.
